Our Mission
The Pennsylvania School Reform Network works to restore Pennsylvania’s promise of an excellent education for each and every child. We work with local homemakers and state policy makers, with the teachers and the taught, with the professionals and the professors – with all who are willing to roll up their sleeves and improve our public schools.
PSRN is nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonsectarian. Knowing that education dollars are precious, we focus our efforts on proven programs and practices that schools and communities can use right now to improve student learning.
Since the Free Schools Act of 1834, Pennsylvania has promised all children who live within our borders an education at public expense. This promise reflects the ancient and profound wisdom that education benefits everyone, whether directly or indirectly, by increasing opportunity and reducing poverty, by lifting spirits and dissipating despair.

Today’s Reality
Today Pennsylvania’s Constitution declares, “The General Assembly shall provide for the maintenance and support of a thorough and efficient system of public education to serve the needs of the Commonwealth.”
Unfortunately, the reality of public education in Pennsylvania today does not match its historic promise or its current Constitutional mandate. Despite excellent public schools in some communities and despite a record of success with more and more students, there are still many children who are left behind. These children are effectively denied a high quality education because they are poor, because they have a disability, because they happen to live in a community whose economy is struggling, because they are not fluent in English, or because of many other reasons that have nothing to do with the talents and abilities of those individual children.
At PSRN, we believe that active citizens can change this reality for the better! Welcome to our web page and to our cause!
